The 2020 Community Leadership Award will be presented to Michelle Gould, a second grade teacher at Churchland Academy Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Teachers hold the key to secure our future and they have always been essential workers. They go above and beyond to engage their students and serve their communities, and this has been especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs. Gould will be recognized for her efforts as an essential worker, a teacher on the frontline during this pandemic. The transition from teaching in a physical classroom to a virtual environment poses several challenges and Mrs. Gould has met those challenges with determination, preparation and the desire for her students to succeed. Mrs. Gould became a teacher because she believes that teaching is not a job or an occupation, but an honorable vocation and a calling. Through teaching, she exemplifies the spirit of leadership, excellence, and commitment to her community.
Mrs. Gould will accept the Community Leadership Award during our Seventh Annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service Event.
Due to the pandemic, our annual MLK Day Event will be hosted online. Our annual event has traditionally been our largest fundraising event of the year. The proceeds from this event allows us to award scholarships to high school seniors in Suffolk, Virginia.
Please consider a one-time gift of $25 or more to help us reach our goal! 100% of every dollar raised goes to our 2021 scholarship recipients.
